Bihar Achieves Historic Milestone in Girls' Education
In a significant development that underscores the progress of women's empowerment in Bihar, the state has reached a historic educational milestone. For the very first time, the number of girl students registered to appear in the 2026 Matriculation examinations has exceeded that of boy students, marking a pivotal shift in enrollment trends and societal attitudes towards female education.
Record-Breaking Enrollment Figures
The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has confirmed that more than 15 lakh students will participate in the upcoming examinations. This massive cohort includes an impressive 7.85 lakh girl students compared to 7.26 lakh boy students, creating a notable gender gap in favor of female candidates. This reversal of traditional enrollment patterns represents a substantial achievement for educational initiatives and gender equality efforts across the state.
Examination Schedule and Logistics
The crucial Matriculation examinations are scheduled to commence on February 17, 2026 and will conclude on February 25, 2026. These assessments will be conducted across 1,699 examination centers strategically distributed throughout Bihar. To accommodate the large number of candidates, the exams will be held in two separate sittings each day. In the capital district of Patna alone, a substantial 71,022 candidates will undertake their examinations at 70 designated centers.
Stringent Security Measures Implemented
BSEB chairman Anand Kishor has outlined comprehensive security protocols to ensure the examinations proceed peacefully, fairly, and transparently. All district magistrates, superintendents of police, and district education officers have received explicit instructions to maintain strict vigilance throughout the examination period.
Key security arrangements include:
- District magistrates and superintendents of police will conduct constant patrols, moving between examination centers to prevent unauthorized access
- Prohibitory orders will be enforced within a 200-meter radius of every examination center
- Magistrates and police personnel will be deployed at all centers
- No student will be permitted entry after the examination has commenced
- Each examinee will undergo thorough frisking at two separate checkpoints
- One invigilator will be assigned for every 25 examinees
- Mobile phones will be strictly prohibited inside examination halls for all personnel except center superintendents
Examination Timing and Entry Requirements
The daily examination schedule has been carefully structured with two distinct shifts. The first shift will begin at 9:30 AM, while the second shift will commence at 2:00 PM. All candidates must arrive at their respective examination centers at least 30 minutes before their scheduled shift to allow sufficient time for identity verification and security procedures.
Technological and Administrative Support Systems
The BSEB has implemented several innovative measures to streamline examination administration and enhance security:
- Every examinee has been issued a Unique Identification number to facilitate special identification and prevent impersonation attempts
- A dedicated WhatsApp group has been established connecting all district magistrates, superintendents of police, and BSEB officials for rapid information dissemination and prompt issue resolution
- A 24-hour control room will operate continuously from 6:00 AM on February 16 until the conclusion of examinations on February 25 to monitor developments and coordinate responses
This comprehensive approach to examination management reflects Bihar's commitment to maintaining the integrity of its educational assessment system while celebrating the remarkable achievement of gender parity in student participation.
