A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Madurai on Monday morning, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old Class 12 student who was on her way to write her board examination. The victim, identified as Durgadevi from Aviyur, was riding pillion on a two-wheeler with her cousin when a state transport corporation bus ran over her after a sudden maneuver to avoid a collision.

Details of the Fatal Morning Commute

According to police sources, Durgadevi was a student at a government-aided school in Teppakulam. She was traveling with her cousin, Ajith Kumar, to her examination center. The tragic event occurred near Perungudi at approximately 7:15 AM. As the duo navigated the road, a government bus approached from behind, prompting Kumar to swerve the two-wheeler left to prevent a potential crash.

Unfortunately, this evasive action caused the bike to land on the edge of the roadway and skid uncontrollably. Durgadevi was thrown from the vehicle and immediately run over by the bus. She sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. In a stroke of fortune, Kumar escaped with only minor scratches and did not require hospitalization.

The body of the deceased student was transported to Government Rajaji Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
