Mass Cheating Scandal Rocks Washim College: 581 Students Caught in Physics Exam
In an unprecedented and shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the education system, a staggering 581 students were caught engaging in mass copying during the Class 12 Physics board examination at Shri Mainagiri Maharaj Junior College in Washim taluka. Surprise Inspection Uncovers Widespread Malpractice
The malpractice came to light during a surprise inspection conducted by a flying squad led by Primary Education Officer Sanjay Sasane on February 16 at around 12:30 PM. Acting on confidential information about large-scale cheating, the team meticulously examined answer sheets and reviewed CCTV footage from the examination center.
The inspection revealed alarming evidence of systematic cheating. Most students had reproduced answers almost word-for-word, indicating a coordinated effort. Objective-type questions also showed identical pen and pencil markings, further confirming the mass copying. Additionally, a mobile phone was found with laboratory assistant Amol Kakde, which has been seized for further investigation as authorities probe possible technological aid in the cheating.
Authorities Take Swift Action Against Students and Staff
Education officer Mangal Dhupe provided detailed insights into the investigation. "During the inspection, 581 answer sheets were reviewed, and CCTV footage clearly confirmed mass copying. We have submitted a proposal recommending the suspension of 26 staff members, including the centre director, assistant director, and supervisors," Dhupe stated. The centre superintendent at the time was Gajanan Kavarkhede.
Preliminary findings indicate that some officials on duty may have facilitated the malpractice, raising serious questions about negligence or collusion. The process of filing criminal cases through the block education officer is also underway, signaling that authorities are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness.
