School Hosts Punjabi Language Activities Under CBSE Initiative
As part of the CBSE initiative Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp (BBSC) 2026 under the theme 'Learn One More Bharatiya Bhasha', Sharda Sarvhitkari Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 40-D, Chandigarh, organised a vibrant series of activities to promote the Punjabi language and its rich cultural heritage. Students participated in Punjabi conversation sessions, storytelling, folk song performances, poetry recitation, calligraphy, quizzes, traditional games and a Punjabi signature campaign, all aimed at encouraging the use and appreciation of the language.
Engaging Students in Language and Culture
The camp provided an engaging platform for students to enhance their linguistic skills, develop a deeper appreciation of Punjab's cultural traditions and embrace the values of multilingualism and national integration. The activities were designed to make learning interactive and fun, with students eagerly taking part in each session.
Punjabi conversation sessions allowed students to practice speaking in a supportive environment, while storytelling sessions narrated folk tales that have been passed down through generations. Folk song performances showcased the musical heritage of Punjab, with students singing traditional numbers. Poetry recitation included works of famous Punjabi poets, encouraging literary appreciation.
Skills Development Through Diverse Activities
Calligraphy workshops taught the art of writing the Gurmukhi script beautifully, emphasizing the aesthetic aspects of the language. Quizzes tested knowledge about Punjabi grammar, literature, and culture, fostering healthy competition. Traditional games like 'Kho Kho' and 'Kabaddi' were also incorporated, linking language with physical activity and teamwork.
A Punjabi signature campaign was launched where students pledged to speak Punjabi daily, further promoting its use beyond the camp. The school administration highlighted that such initiatives align with the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes the importance of mother tongues and regional languages in education.
CBSE’s Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp
The BBSC 2026 is a nationwide CBSE program aimed at encouraging students to learn one additional Indian language beyond their mother tongue. By focusing on Punjabi, the school contributed to preserving linguistic diversity and cultural identity. The camp also included sessions on the history of Punjabi literature and its global influence.
Teachers reported that students showed increased interest in Punjabi after the camp, with many requesting more such activities in the future. The school plans to continue language promotion through weekly clubs and inter-class competitions.
