Rajasthan Education Department Launches Statewide School Infrastructure Overhaul
The Rajasthan state education department has rolled out a major statewide initiative aimed at enhancing the condition of government school buildings in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season. This program places a strong emphasis on student safety and the reinforcement of critical infrastructure across the state.
Prompt Action Following Structural Assessment
This decisive move comes in the wake of a school building collapse in Piplodi village, Jhalawar, which occurred in July 2025. In response, the department conducted a thorough assessment to pinpoint structurally vulnerable schools. Officials have confirmed that dilapidated buildings were identified as a top priority, with repair efforts launched immediately on a war footing.
More than 2,000 school buildings were found to require significant repairs, and renovation work is currently in full swing across these sites. "All identified buildings are being strengthened and are expected to be ready by March," stated an official from the department.
Extensive Waterproofing and New Construction Projects
In a significant achievement, the department reported that waterproofing and essential repair work has been successfully completed in approximately 21,000 schools throughout Rajasthan. This effort was carried out with crucial support from the State Disaster Response Force, ensuring a coordinated approach to disaster preparedness.
Beyond repairs, the infrastructure push includes the construction of 175 new school buildings, which are currently in progress. Additional key projects encompass:
- Construction of new girls' toilets in schools
- Establishment of more than 2,250 science laboratories across 900 schools
- Development of dining-cum-study halls in 229 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas
- Creation of hostel facilities at District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET) centres in 7 districts
- Repair work in over 3,000 anganwadi centres
This comprehensive initiative underscores the state's commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment for students, particularly in the face of seasonal challenges like the monsoon.
