SFI Protest at NIT Trichy Over ABVP Leader's Presence at Viksit Bharat Conference

Tension flared briefly at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy on Saturday morning when members of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest outside the campus. The demonstration was directed against the participation of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) national organising secretary Ashish Chauhan as a guest of honour at a two-day conference being held on the institute's premises.

Protesters Attempt to Barge In, Police Intervene

The SFI protesters gathered in front of the main gate, raising slogans and alleging that the event represented an effort to "saffronise" the education system. During the protest, some individuals attempted to jump over the main gate to gain entry into the campus. Police personnel stationed at the location swiftly intervened to prevent any breach of security. According to police sources, the SFI had not obtained the necessary permission to conduct the protest, leading to the detention of the protesters involved in the attempted entry.

The conference, titled 'Emerging Multidisciplinary Research Trends and Advanced Methodologies for Viksit Bharat 2047,' is being jointly organised by NIT Trichy and SHODH, a research platform. The minister projected that India is on track to become the world's third-largest economy by 2027 and aims to emerge as the leading global economic power by 2047, aligning with the Viksit Bharat vision.

Conference Scope and Participation

This academic gathering underscores the institute's focus on fostering advanced methodologies and research trends that support national development objectives, despite the brief disruption caused by the protest.
