Six Madhyamik Students Injured in Serious Bike Accident in Howrah

In a distressing incident on Friday afternoon, six Madhyamik examinees were injured in a severe bike accident at the Hatal Manashatala crossing in Howrah. The students were returning home after completing their history exam when the crash occurred, resulting in two being critically injured and four receiving initial treatment before discharge.

Details of the Accident and Injuries

According to police reports, the students, all from Bargachia Priyanath School, had taken their exam at Hatal Bishalakhi High School. They were traveling on two bikes when one bike lost control and collided with a tree, throwing three students off. Tragically, one of these students was then run over by the second bike, which also crashed into the same tree, causing the other three students to be flung off as well.

The critically injured students were rushed to different hospitals for urgent care. One was transferred to a private hospital in Uluberia, while the other was taken to Kolkata for specialized treatment. The four less severely injured students were initially taken to Jagatballavpur Goalpata Hospital by locals and were later discharged after receiving medical attention.

Police Investigation and Response

Police officials noted that the bikes were speeding at the time of the accident, and none of the riders were wearing helmets, which likely exacerbated the injuries. Subhash Das, a member of the district secondary exam monitoring committee responsible for Jagatballavpur, stated that they immediately rushed to the scene upon hearing the news. They played a crucial role in arranging for the students' rescue and ensuring they received prompt medical care, with police also being informed to assist in the situation.

This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving, especially among young students, and underscores the importance of road safety measures such as wearing helmets and adhering to speed limits.
