Stray Dog Pack Mauls 9-Year-Old Girl at Rajasthan School, Leaves Her Critical
A horrifying incident unfolded at a government school in Rajasthan's Bundi district on Thursday, leaving a nine-year-old girl fighting for her life after being viciously attacked by a pack of stray dogs during the lunch break. The brutal mauling has sparked widespread panic and raised serious concerns about child safety on school premises.
Attack During School Lunch Break
The terrifying attack occurred around 11:30 AM at the Government Senior Secondary School in Sitapur village, located within the Talera area. According to eyewitness accounts and official statements, children had just finished their mid-day meal and were playing in the school grounds when four to five stray dogs suddenly entered the campus.
The dogs targeted the young girl, dragging her across the ground and biting her repeatedly, creating a scene of utter chaos as terrified students ran for safety. Teachers and school staff immediately rushed to intervene, managing to drive the aggressive animals away from the injured child.
Severe Injuries and Emergency Treatment
Family members reported that the girl sustained between 14 to 15 serious bite wounds during the prolonged attack. She was initially taken in critical condition to a hospital in Taleda, but due to the severity of her injuries, was quickly referred to MBS Hospital in Kota for specialized treatment.
Dr. Neeraj Dewanda, senior professor and head of general surgery at MBS Hospital, confirmed the gravity of the situation. "The child has suffered serious and deep wounds, including injuries near the lungs," he stated. The young victim has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and remains under close medical monitoring as doctors work to stabilize her condition.
Official Response and Investigation
District Education Officer Kunjbihari Bharadwaj officially confirmed the incident at the Talera school. "After the mid-day meal, children were playing when dogs entered the campus and attacked one student. Teachers and the principal immediately rushed her to hospital. She is undergoing treatment," he explained.
The girl's family has raised serious allegations that stray dogs frequently roam inside the school premises, creating an ongoing safety hazard. They have demanded immediate action from authorities to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
In response, education department officials have directed block-level officers to visit the school and conduct a thorough investigation. This probe will examine all aspects of the incident, including whether any other children were injured during the chaotic attack and assess the overall safety measures at the institution.
Broader Safety Concerns
This shocking incident has highlighted significant safety gaps in school environments, particularly in areas where stray animal populations pose a constant threat. The attack has prompted urgent discussions about:
- Improved security measures at educational institutions
- Better management of stray animal populations near schools
- Emergency response protocols for such incidents
- Regular safety audits of school premises
As the young victim continues her fight for recovery in the ICU, authorities face mounting pressure to implement concrete measures that will ensure such a traumatic event never repeats itself at any educational institution in the region.
