A 20-year-old second-year pharmacy student was found dead in his rented room in Jalgaon city on Sunday evening, with police investigating the incident as a suicide linked to alleged harassment by his college principal. The student, identified as Shyam Patil from Bodvad in Muktainagar taluka, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in his apartment in the Daulat Nagar area around 5 pm.

In a chilling development, a note purportedly written by Shyam was found in his pocket, stating that he took his own life after being beaten by his college principal in front of other students and staff. According to Deputy SP Nitin Ganapure, the note detailed how the principal allegedly slapped him and assaulted him with a PVC pipe following a quarrel between student groups, even though Shyam was not directly involved in the altercation.
FIR Registered Against Missing Principal
Based on a complaint filed by Shyam's father, Prabhakar Patil, the Ramanand police in Jalgaon have registered a case of abetment of suicide against the college principal, whose whereabouts are currently unknown. The police have launched a search operation but have not yet located the accused principal. The chairman of the institute, former state minister Gulabrao Deokar, commented that since an FIR has been registered, the police will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

Shyam Patil, who hailed from a farming family, is survived by his father Prabhakar, mother, grandfather, and twin brother Ram. According to the complaint, Shyam called his father on February 14 at 7 pm, informing him about the quarrel and the subsequent beating by the principal. Although his father asked him to return home on Sunday, Shyam did not do so. Later that day, around 5 pm, the landlord of the apartment contacted Shyam's twin brother Ram to inform him of the tragic discovery.
