UPPSC Announces Revised Schedule for PCS-2025 Mains Examination with Updated Timings

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has officially released a revised schedule for the Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services (PCS)-2025 mains examination. This update introduces partial modifications to the timing of question papers while maintaining the previously announced overall structure of the exam.

New Exam Dates and Shift Timings for PCS-2025 Mains

The main examination is now set to be conducted from March 29 to April 1, 2025, across two key cities: Prayagraj and Lucknow. Each day will feature two shifts, with the revised timings as follows:

  • First Shift: 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon (previously 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM)
  • Second Shift: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM (previously 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM)

This adjustment aims to streamline the examination process and provide candidates with a more structured timeframe.

Detailed Programme for the PCS-2025 Mains Exam

According to the detailed programme released by the commission, the examination will proceed as follows:

  1. March 29: General Hindi in the forenoon session, followed by the Essay paper in the afternoon.
  2. March 30: General Studies Paper I and II will be conducted.
  3. March 31: General Studies Paper III and IV are scheduled.
  4. April 1: The final day will see the examination of General Studies Paper V and VI.

This structured approach ensures a systematic assessment of candidates across various subjects.

PCS Prelims Result 2025 and Candidate Statistics

The commission had previously declared the PCS Prelims result for 2025 on December 1, 2025. Out of 2,65,270 candidates who appeared for the preliminary exam on October 12, 2025, a total of 11,727 candidates have qualified for the mains examination. These candidates are competing for 920 vacancies in the state services.

LT Grade Examination-2025 Preliminary Results for Biology and English

In a parallel development, the UPPSC has also declared the preliminary examination results for the LT Grade Examination-2025 in the subjects of Biology and English.

Biology Subject:

  • Total registered candidates: 1,51,363
  • Candidates appeared: 87,652 (in the exam held on January 17)
  • Successful candidates: 2,789 (qualifying for the main examination)
  • Vacancies: 214 posts, including 185 in the male branch, 29 in the female branch, and 8 posts of special teachers under the Divyangjan Sashaktikaran department.

English Subject:

  • Total registered candidates: 1,11,264
  • Candidates appeared: 59,530 (in the exam held on January 18)
  • Successful candidates: 7,165 (qualifying for the main examination)
  • Vacancies: 657 posts, including 540 in the male branch, 113 in the female branch, and 4 under the Divyangjan Sashaktikaran department.

Key Notifications and Future Steps from UPPSC

The commission has highlighted that, in certain categories, the requirement of having 15 times the number of candidates against vacancies could not be met due to the minimum qualifying marks criteria. Important updates include:

  • Dates and online application guidelines for the main examination will be issued separately.
  • Marks and cut-off details will be uploaded on the official website after the final result is declared.
  • The result of women candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh will remain subject to the final decision in a special appeal pending before the High Court.
