West Bengal School Service Commission Declares SLST Results, Paving Way for 13,000 Teaching Jobs

In a significant development for thousands of job seekers in the education sector, the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has officially published the results of the State Level Selection Test (SLST) for assistant teachers in classes 11 and 12. The results, which were made available on the commission's official portal on Friday evening, mark a crucial step towards filling approximately 13,000 vacant teaching positions in state-run and state-aided schools across Bengal.

A New Hope for Aspirants After Supreme Court Setback

This announcement brings a wave of relief, particularly for those candidates whose previous appointments were invalidated by a Supreme Court order. The move is seen as a fresh start, offering new hope to the teaching community. Expressing his satisfaction with the process, West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu emphasized that the examination was conducted with the highest levels of transparency. He credited the initiative to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating that this is not merely an administrative step but a concrete action that will materialize into new recruitment by December.

The Road Ahead: Interviews and Final Selection

Candidates who have successfully cleared the written test will now proceed to the next stage: the interview process. This phase is designed to evaluate essential teaching competencies, including pedagogical skills, in-depth subject knowledge, and effective communication abilities. Following the interviews, a final merit list will be prepared, combining the scores from both the written test and the interview. The final step for successful candidates will be document verification, where they must present original educational certificates, mark sheets, and valid identity proofs before their appointments are officially confirmed.

The scale of this recruitment drive is massive, with over 2.29 lakh candidates having appeared for the examination held on September 14. A senior WBSSC official noted that while it is not immediately clear how many of the 26,000 teachers affected by the Supreme Court's April 1 verdict have qualified in this new test, a large number of untainted candidates are expected to have cleared the exam successfully.
