Davanagere University Honors Outstanding Postgraduate Students with Gold Medals
The 2024–25 academic year convocation at Davangere University was a momentous occasion, celebrating the remarkable achievements of several postgraduate students who secured top ranks and multiple gold medals. Their journeys, marked by perseverance and dedication, serve as an inspiration to the academic community.
Nayana NB: A Surprising First Rank in MCom
Nayana NB emerged as a standout performer, clinching the first rank in MCom and winning an impressive seven gold medals in the PG division. Her academic path was not straightforward. "I initially wanted to study in the science stream, but due to my family's financial situation at the time, I pursued BCom instead," she revealed. Despite facing setbacks, including unsuccessful attempts at Chartered Accountancy, Nayana found her calling at the university. "Joining for MCom was a turning point, and I found success here," she added.
Raised under her grandmother's care from school through university, Nayana's achievement came as a delightful surprise. "I had expected second or third rank, so securing first rank was unexpected," she shared. Her parents, Bharaman Gowda and Meenakshi, reside in Jigali near Harihar, undoubtedly proud of her accomplishments.
Anusha MM: Triumph Over Daily Commuting Challenges
In the Kannada PG program, Anusha MM secured three gold medals, showcasing her determination amidst adversity. Hailing from a family with limited resources—her father manages just one acre of land and takes on occasional cooking jobs—Anusha was motivated by her father's desire to educate her and her sister. "Despite the hardships of commuting daily from my village to the university, I was determined to study well, and it paid off," she stated, highlighting her resilience.
Chandan VM: Following in His Father's Footsteps
Chandan VM from Aimangala, Hiriyur, achieved the first rank in journalism and won two gold medals. Balancing early morning newspaper deliveries with his studies, Chandan chose a journalism degree to honor his journalist-father's wish. "Distributing newspapers to homes in the morning while studying was challenging, but it aligned with my passion and my father's aspirations," he explained.
Aishwarya OS: Overcoming Barriers to Excel in Criminology
Aishwarya OS, originally from Ernakulam, Kerala, topped the PG program in criminology and forensic science. Unable to meet the height requirement for a police officer, she chose to contribute to the department through her studies. "My passion and dedication to the course led me to secure the first rank," she said. Initially struggling with a language barrier for two months, Aishwarya learned Kannada to communicate with peers. Currently working at the Sherlock Institute of Forensic Science in Delhi, she aspires to become a forensic scientist.
Satyamurty S: From BSc to PhD and CSIR Fellowship
Satyamurty S, who completed his BSc in Chitradurga, secured the first rank in MSc Biotechnology, winning two gold medals. His academic journey continued as he pursued a PhD in the neuroscience department at JSS University in Mysore. Notably, he ranked 183rd nationally in the CSIR Fellowship exam and was selected for the fellowship, underscoring his excellence in research and higher studies.
