Delhi University has officially unveiled its admission prospectus for undergraduate programmes for the academic session 2026-27. The document, now available on the university's admission portal, details the complete roadmap for prospective students, including eligibility norms, subject prerequisites, and the step-by-step admission procedure.
CUET UG 2026: The Sole Gateway for UG Admissions
The university has made it unequivocally clear that admission to all its regular undergraduate courses will be based exclusively on scores from the Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduates (CUET UG) 2026. This rule is applicable across the board for all programmes offered under the regular stream. However, there are specific exceptions to this mandate. Admissions for the School of Open Learning (SOL), the Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board, and foreign nationals will follow a separate process and are not covered under the CUET-based admission policy.
The prospectus reinforces a crucial existing rule: candidates must appear for CUET UG subjects that align with the subjects they studied in their Class 12 qualifying examination. The university will not permit students to seek admission in a subject they did not study at the Class 12 level. This policy stands firm, even though the general CUET UG 2026 framework might allow candidates to take tests for subjects not studied previously.
No Changes in Subject Eligibility and Combinations
Delhi University has confirmed that there are no major alterations in the admission rules compared to the previous cycle. The existing subject eligibility criteria will continue to be in force. Furthermore, the subject combinations listed in the university's List A and List B remain unchanged. Applicants are strongly advised to meticulously review these lists when selecting their subject combination for the CUET UG 2026 to ensure compliance and eligibility.
The university asserts that its own admission policy will take precedence over the general provisions of CUET UG. As per the norms, each participating university is empowered to set its specific criteria, and Delhi University's rules will be final and binding for admissions to its programmes.
Guidelines for Subject Equivalence and Syllabus Mapping
For situations where a subject studied in Class 12 is not directly listed among the CUET UG 2026 subjects, the prospectus provides clear guidance. In such cases, candidates are required to appear for a closely related language or domain-specific subject in the entrance test. The university cites an example: a student who studied Biochemistry in Class 12 must opt for Biology in CUET UG 2026.
The process of establishing equivalence between a Class 12 subject and a CUET UG subject is based on a key criterion: at least 50 per cent of the syllabus must match. The university reserves the sole right to determine this equivalence, and its decision on the matter will be considered final.
Prospective applicants are urged to consult the detailed information bulletin and the official prospectus uploaded on the Delhi University admission website for comprehensive information on eligibility, subject mapping, and all procedural aspects of the admission process for the 2026-27 academic year.
