The historic first convocation of GM University was held in Davangere on Sunday, marking a significant milestone for the institution. The event saw 318 students receive their degrees, with distinguished space scientist Dr Mylswamy Annadurai delivering the keynote address and former Union minister GM Siddeshwar honouring top performers.
ISRO Luminary Emphasises Ethics in the Age of AI
Dr Mylswamy Annadurai, the former director of the Isro Satellite Centre, was the chief guest. In his speech, he commended the university, which is managed by the Shreeshaila Educational Trust, for achieving excellence in both education and research. He spoke extensively on the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence across various industries.
Annadurai urged the graduating class to become responsible leaders who can balance technological advancement with core human values and ethics. He stressed that lifelong learning is essential and reminded the graduates of their duty to be conscientious members of society.
Gold Medals Awarded to Top Achievers
The ceremony included a special awards segment where former Union minister GM Siddeshwar presented gold medals to the university's highest achievers. The recipients were Swatimuttu SR from the MCA program and Sanketh S from the MBA program.
Siddeshwar praised GM University for its commitment to supporting students from rural backgrounds and economically weaker sections. He also had a special message for graduates planning to go abroad, reminding them of their enduring responsibilities towards their families and home country.
A Celebration of Academic Milestones
University Chancellor GM Lingaraju formally congratulated all the graduates on their success. The academic procession and degree conferral for the 318 students was a central part of the day's events.
Vice-Chancellor SR Shankapal welcomed the dignitaries, guests, and students to the inaugural function. The ceremony concluded with the graduate oath, which was administered by HD Maheshappa, solemnising the students' entry into the community of educated professionals.
The convocation successfully launched GM University's tradition of celebrating academic rigour and contribution to society, setting a high standard for future gatherings.
