The state of Jharkhand is poised to establish its first-ever medical university, with the foundation stone expected to be laid in the capital city of Ranchi early next year. This landmark initiative aims to centralize and elevate medical education and governance across the state.
Foundation Ceremony and Site Finalized
Chief Minister Hemant Soren is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the university in January 2025. The chosen location for this prestigious institution is the Brambe area in Ranchi. For its initial operations, the university will temporarily function from the former campus of the Central University of Jharkhand at Brambe, which officials have deemed suitable after a recent inspection.
Administrative Green Signal and Operational Plan
All necessary technical and administrative hurdles for the project have been successfully cleared. The announcement was made public by Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Ajoy Kumar Singh on Thursday. A dedicated state medical university board has already been formed to oversee the establishment process.
Officials are targeting to commence the university's operations within the next six to seven months. The institution will be modeled on the lines of a central university, taking on critical responsibilities that include:
- Registration and oversight of medical colleges in the state.
- Appointment of faculty members.
- Conducting examinations.
- Managing overall academic governance and standards.
Infrastructure Readiness and Official Inspection
Health Minister Irfan Ansari, accompanied by senior department officials, recently visited the proposed temporary site at Brambe. The inspection concluded that the existing infrastructure is adequately equipped to support the university's initial functions, allowing for a swift start once formalities are complete.
This move is seen as a significant step towards strengthening Jharkhand's healthcare education framework. By creating a dedicated governing body for medical studies, the state aims to ensure better quality control, standardized training, and improved academic outcomes for future medical professionals.
