In a significant move to recognise and involve its high-achieving students, Lucknow University has officially announced the formation of its Student Meritorious Council for the ongoing academic session 2025-26. The announcement comes after a delay of nearly seven months from the start of the academic year, with the council being formally constituted on Tuesday.
Leadership and Key Appointments
The university has appointed a team of meritorious students to lead the newly formed body. Ayushi Nigam, a student of MA Economics, has been named the President of the council. She will be supported by two Vice-Presidents: Shreya Verma from MSc Statistics and Arushi Sharma from MSc Applied Geology.
For the crucial role of General Secretary, the university has selected Vanshika Singh Chauhan from MSc FPPT. Assisting her as Joint Secretaries will be Ila Mishra (MA Geography) and Khushi Tandon (MBA International Business). The selection of representatives spans various faculties to ensure a balanced and inclusive participation from across the university's academic spectrum.
Council's Mandate and Broader Vision
The primary objective of the Student Meritorious Council is to formally recognise academic achievers and actively engage them in the university's ecosystem. The council is tasked with a multi-faceted role that goes beyond mere recognition.
Its key responsibilities will include promoting academic excellence, fostering cultural engagement, and encouraging wider student participation in university affairs. Furthermore, the council is expected to serve as a bridge between the student body and the administration, addressing pertinent issues and ensuring that the voices of meritorious students contribute to shaping new university initiatives and policies.
A Step Towards Inclusive Governance
The formation of this dedicated council marks a structured effort by Lucknow University to integrate its top performers into the governance and developmental activities of the campus. By creating this platform, the university aims to harness the potential of its brightest students, allowing them to play an active and constructive role in enhancing the overall academic and extracurricular environment. The move is seen as a positive step towards rewarding merit and encouraging a culture of leadership and responsibility among students who excel in their studies.
