Manipal Academy of Higher Education to Establish Quantum Computing Innovation Hub in Bengaluru
Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has announced plans to set up a state-of-the-art quantum computing innovation hub on its Bengaluru campus. This initiative marks a significant advancement in India's technological landscape, positioning MAHE as a pioneer in quantum research and development.
Advanced Infrastructure with 25-Qubit System
The hub will commence operations with a cutting-edge 25-qubit superconducting quantum computing system. This sophisticated hardware will be housed in a specialized dilution refrigerator, ensuring optimal conditions for quantum operations. The facility is designed as an open architecture and technology-agnostic platform, enabling seamless access for researchers, academic institutions, and industry partners regardless of vendor or technology preferences.
Focus on Health-Science Applications
A primary objective of the innovation hub is to explore and develop health-science applications of quantum computing. This focus aligns with the broader strengths of the Manipal group in healthcare and medical research. Vice Chancellor MD Venkatesh emphasized that this strategic direction will leverage quantum technologies to address complex challenges in medical science, potentially revolutionizing diagnostics, drug discovery, and treatment methodologies.
The hub is scheduled to become fully functional from September, providing a collaborative environment for interdisciplinary research. By integrating quantum computing with healthcare expertise, MAHE aims to foster innovation that could lead to breakthroughs in personalized medicine and biomedical engineering.
This development underscores Bengaluru's growing reputation as a hub for technological innovation, with MAHE contributing to the city's ecosystem through advanced research infrastructure and industry-academia partnerships.
