Aamir Khan's Narrative Contribution to Shahid Kapoor's 'O'Romeo' Unveiled
Shahid Kapoor's gripping crime drama 'O'Romeo' continues to hold steady at the box office, buoyed by strong audience word of mouth. However, moviegoers were left intrigued by an unexpected name in the opening credits: Aamir Khan. Many speculated about a potential cameo appearance by the superstar, but he does not physically appear in the film. This curiosity has now been addressed by director Vishal Bhardwaj, who revealed Aamir's significant behind-the-scenes role.
The Pivotal Suggestion That Shaped the Film
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Vishal Bhardwaj shared that Aamir Khan heard the script prior to production and offered a critical narrative idea. "Aamir wanted to hear the script of 'O'Romeo'. And when he heard it, he gave me this idea, that someone should be killed at a crucial point in the film," Bhardwaj stated. This suggestion led to the pivotal murder of lawyer Anjum Ansari, portrayed by Resh Lamba, in a restaurant scene.
"Killing the lawyer Anjum Ansari in the restaurant was his idea... This suggestion changed so many things for me," the filmmaker elaborated. The moment serves as a dramatic turning point, where protagonist Ustara, played by Shahid Kapoor, begins to perceive Afshan, enacted by Triptii Dimri, in a new light. Shocked by her capacity for vengeance, Ustara becomes increasingly drawn to her and later tends to her after she sustains injuries.
Emotional Core and Acknowledgment
According to Bhardwaj, this single narrative decision fundamentally drives the emotional core of the film. "So, the whole love story starts from there. That was a big plot point for me. And that's why I wanted to thank Aamir from the bottom of my heart," he added, explaining the credit in the disclaimer. The film's ensemble cast includes Nana Patekar and Avinash Tiwary in key roles, with special appearances by Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Disha Patani. It is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, who recently celebrated his 60th birthday on February 18.
Aamir Khan's Current Projects and Future Endeavors
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan was last seen in the successful film 'Sitaare Zameen Par' (2025) and made a notable cameo in Rajinikanth's 'Coolie'. He is currently preparing for 'Lahore 1947', directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, with Aamir reportedly appearing in an extended cameo. The film is slated for release on August 13. Prior to that, his production banner will present 'Ek Din' on May 1, featuring Junaid Khan and marking the Hindi debut of Sai Pallavi.
The entertainment landscape continues to evolve with such collaborative efforts, highlighting how behind-the-scenes contributions can significantly shape cinematic narratives. 'O'Romeo' stands as a testament to the impact of creative input from industry veterans like Aamir Khan, even without an on-screen presence.
