Akshay Kumar has broken his silence on the notable absence of veteran actors Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor from the upcoming film Welcome to the Jungle. In a recent interview, the actor explained that the decision was driven by script requirements and character evolution, not personal conflicts.
Script Demanded Fresh Characters
According to Akshay Kumar, the script for Welcome to the Jungle underwent significant changes from its predecessors. The new storyline focuses on a younger generation of characters, necessitating a shift in the ensemble cast. Kumar stated, "The script demanded a fresh set of characters to drive the narrative forward. It was a creative decision to ensure the film feels new and exciting."
The actor emphasized that both Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor were approached but their roles did not fit the revised plot. "We had discussions with them, but the roles we had in mind didn't align with their availability or the direction we wanted to take," Kumar added.
No Fallout, Just Professional Decisions
Addressing rumors of a fallout, Akshay Kumar clarified that there is no bad blood between him and the veteran actors. "Nana ji and Anil ji are like family to me. Sometimes professional commitments and creative choices lead to such outcomes. There's no animosity," he said.
Kumar also praised the new cast members, including Disha Patani and Jacqueline Fernandez, who will bring a fresh energy to the franchise. "The audience will see a different vibe in this installment. We have a great mix of talent," he noted.
What to Expect from Welcome to the Jungle
The film, directed by Ahmed Khan, is set to release in 2026. It will feature Akshay Kumar reprising his role as Rajiv, alongside a new ensemble. The movie promises high-octane action and comedy, staying true to the franchise's roots while evolving the story.
Fans of the original Welcome series have expressed mixed reactions to the casting changes, but Kumar remains optimistic. "Change is good. We want to surprise the audience and take them on a new journey," he concluded.
