The long-awaited sequel to the iconic 1997 war film, 'Border 2,' is set to bridge a gap of over 27 years by bringing back the soul of the original. The film, which narrates a story set during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, is creating a powerful link to its predecessor by featuring the original stars in a special sequence.
Iconic Characters Return for a Poignant Reunion
In a move that will thrill fans of the classic, actors Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, and Sudesh Berry are set to appear in special roles, reprising the exact characters they immortalized in 'Border.' According to reports, Akshaye Khanna returns as Second Lieutenant Dharamvir Singh Bhakhri, Suniel Shetty as Assistant Commandant Bhairon Singh Rathore, and Sudesh Berry as Naib Subedar Mathura Das. All three characters met a heroic end, becoming martyrs in the original film's narrative.
The emotional connection happens in a pivotal scene where the old and new generations cross paths. In 'Border 2,' the characters from the 1997 film will meet the new generation of soldiers at an event that takes place before the 1971 war commences. This scene is designed to serve as a meaningful bridge between the two cinematic chapters.
Behind the Scenes: De-Aging Tech and a Father-Son Moment
The makers, as per Mid Day reports, believed this moment would add immense emotional value and serve as a reminder of the bravery celebrated in the first film. The scene also marks a unique real-life moment where Suniel Shetty and his son Ahan Shetty will share screen space in the same project, though they do not play father and son in the film's storyline.
Logistically, shooting this special sequence faced some delays. Initially planned for earlier this year, it was postponed due to date conflicts. Akshaye Khanna and Sudesh Berry filmed their portions in Mumbai in November. Suniel Shetty, who was occupied with another project and sporting a different look, completed his segment using a green screen. To ensure visual continuity, the production will employ special effects to de-age all three actors, making them appear as they did in the original 1997 film.
A New Generation Takes the Baton
'Border 2' is directed by Anurag Singh and features a new lead cast headlined by Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty. The film has already begun generating positive buzz within the industry. Actor Arjun Rampal recently praised the project after viewing its teaser.
He took to social media to express his excitement, writing, “Love the new energy these handsome and solid youngsters Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty are bringing; with the backing of the one and only Sunny Deol, I guess India is in good hands.” He further added, “Look forward to seeing them in action under the direction of Anurag Singh.”
This blend of legacy and fresh talent aims to honor the spirit of the original while carving out a new patriotic narrative for contemporary audiences, making 'Border 2' one of the most anticipated Bollywood releases.
