Krushna Abhishek Opens Up About Performing Comedy After Father's Death

Krushna Abhishek, celebrated for his impeccable comic timing and widely regarded as one of Indian television's finest comedy actors, has been delighting audiences with his sharp wit since his early days on Comedy Circus. In a recent candid interview with Parag Tyagi on his YouTube channel, Krushna delved into one of the most challenging periods of his life, when he had to perform comedy shortly after his father's passing.

The Heart-Wrenching Request from Producers

Krushna disclosed that during the filming of Comedy Nights Bachao, producer Vipu D Shah approached him with a difficult request. The show had no bank of episodes, and they urgently needed to shoot. Krushna recounted, "As far as sadness is concerned, I lost my father in 2016 on August 26, and I was doing Comedy Nights Bachao with Bharti Singh, where we used to roast people. I remember Shefali had also come on the show, along with Rakhi Sawant for an episode, and some clips from that episode went viral. So when my father passed away, the tervi (funeral rites) hadn't even been performed yet. Vipul ji came to meet me on the 10th day and told me, 'I'm feeling really bad to ask you to shoot for an episode as we don't have a bank of episodes.'"

The Pressure of Locked Dates and Professional Duty

He further explained that the producers had secured Katrina Kaif's dates for the shoot and could not cancel it. "Vipul ji told me they had Katrina's dates and no bank episodes. I told him I couldn't shoot before the tervi on the tenth day. He responded, 'I know I'm saying something very wrong, but if you shoot for just three hours, our Saturday telecast will go on the next day. Without an episode, what will we do? We can't do the shoot without you.'" Krushna reflected on this dilemma, torn between personal grief and professional responsibility.

Drawing Strength from His Father's Beliefs

After much contemplation, Krushna remembered his father's words: work is important, and the show must go on. He shared, "I thought a lot about it; I hadn't even performed my father's tervi, so how could I shoot? But I just recalled my father's philosophy. He was a devout believer in Lord Krishna and named me after him. He was born on Janmashtami and passed away at age 75, also on Janmashtami, in his sleep." This spiritual connection provided him with the courage to proceed.

Katrina Kaif's Heartwarming Gesture of Support

Upon learning about Krushna's circumstances, Katrina Kaif showed immense compassion. He said, "I finally went for the shoot, and Katrina learned I was filming under such conditions. She came to meet me and was extremely warm. It was very sweet of her. The warmth I received from her—I've worked with many actresses, but I've always liked her because of her nature. I respect others too, but I have immense respect for her in my heart." Her kindness offered solace during this trying time.

Bharti Singh's Unwavering Support as a Sister

Krushna also credited co-host Bharti Singh for her steadfast support. "I finally shot the episode, and Bharti, who is like my sister, supported me a lot during that phase. We did the episode, but at that time, I wondered how I would manage it. Yet, work is work, and you have to do it," he concluded, highlighting the importance of resilience in the entertainment industry.
