Mahesh Babu's Unforgettable African Adventure for SS Rajamouli's 'Varanasi'
Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu is currently immersed in what he describes as the biggest film of his career – SS Rajamouli's highly anticipated magnum opus 'Varanasi'. This jungle adventure thriller promises to be a cinematic spectacle, with shooting sequences spanning various global locations, including a particularly intense segment filmed in the heart of Africa.
Intimidating Encounters with Wildlife During Filming
In a recent interview with Discussing Film, Mahesh Babu opened up about the extraordinary experience of shooting amidst wild animals in Africa. The actor confessed that the initial moments were quite intimidating, creating a memory he will cherish forever.
"It's something I will never forget," Mahesh Babu revealed. "The first day of shooting in Africa right in the middle of these animals, we had to get down from our vehicles and walk. I usually lead from the front, but on that particular day I was a bit hesitant."
The actor described hearing director SS Rajamouli's voice through walkie-talkies instructing co-star Priyanka Chopra to walk in front, which added to the surreal nature of the experience. "There were these walkie-talkies, and I could hear (Rajamouli) sir's voice saying, 'PC (Priyanka Chopra) I want you to walk (in) front,' and I was like... yes," he recounted.
Despite the initial apprehension, Mahesh Babu noted how quickly the film crew adapted to their surroundings. "It was a bit intimidating with all those wild animals but after 5 or 10 minutes you wouldn't see the cameras, you wouldn't see anybody. It's just us in the middle of the wildlands," he explained, emphasizing the immersive nature of the filming process.
A Dream Project with Monumental Expectations
Mahesh Babu has repeatedly referred to 'Varanasi' as a dream project, expressing his complete dedication to making it a success. The film's teaser and title were officially unveiled in November 2025, generating significant buzz among fans and industry observers alike.

I will work as hard for it as possible. I will make everyone proud. Most importantly, I'll make my director the most proud. When Varanasi releases, India will be proud of us," he declared with evident enthusiasm.
