Arvind Vaidya, the esteemed actor renowned for his portrayal of Hasmukh, affectionately known as Babuji, in the popular television series Anupamaa, has been honored with the prestigious Padma Shri Award this year. With a remarkable career spanning six decades across theater, television, and film, this recognition marks a crowning achievement in his illustrious journey.
The Unexpected Call That Changed Everything
In a heartfelt revelation, Arvind Vaidya described the moment he learned of the award. "January 25th was just an ordinary day for me," he recalled. "It wasn't a birthday or any special occasion, so I was going about my usual routine." He initially hesitated to answer an unknown number, adhering to his children's advice, but curiosity got the better of him on the third ring.
The caller identified themselves as an official from the Ministry of Home Affairs in Delhi. "When they asked if I was Arvind-ji and then announced I was being awarded the Padma Shri, I was utterly speechless and stunned," he shared. After a brief pause to process the news, he enthusiastically accepted, stating, "Who wouldn't embrace such a monumental honor?" From that instant, he felt a new chapter of his life had begun.
A Lifetime of Dedication and Appreciation
Reflecting on his six-decade career, Arvind Vaidya expressed profound gratitude. "I have been working in theater, TV, and occasional films for 60 years, even before television existed in India," he said. "I've experienced many ups and downs, but it has all been rewarding. This award feels like the icing on the cake—a validation I never expected." His primary expectation was always the love of his audience, which he has received abundantly.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Arvind emphasized the importance of relationships. "I have no complaints in life," he affirmed. "I am blessed with a wonderful wife, good children, and great friends. Every producer I've worked with has become a friend, and I maintain cordial terms with all." He humorously added that his only two passions are acting and his wife, both indispensable to his life.

Producer Rajan Shahi expressed immense pride in Arvind Vaidya's achievement. "It's a proud moment for our entire Anupamaa team," he stated. "Working with him for over five and a half years has been a tremendous learning experience. I call him the youngest actor on set because of his incredible energy, enthusiasm, and discipline." Rupali also paid tribute to the late actor Satish Shah, who was posthumously awarded the Padma Shri. "This was long overdue for Satish Kaka," she remarked. "We always told him he deserved it more than anyone due to his vast contributions to cinema and his exemplary character. I wish he could have been here to see it, but I'm grateful the Indian Government honored both him and Arvind Uncle."
