Sara Arjun's Dhurandhar Casting: 1000+ Auditions for Role

Sara Arjun's Breakthrough Role in Dhurandhar: Behind the Scenes of a Massive Casting Hunt

In the high-stakes world of Bollywood blockbusters, the casting process can be as dramatic as the films themselves. For the action-packed sequel 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', starring Ranveer Singh, the search for the perfect co-star led to an exhaustive audition marathon. Sara Arjun, who has garnered widespread acclaim for her performance as Yalina Jamali, was selected after a grueling selection process that saw over a thousand hopefuls vying for the role.

The Quest for Authenticity: Why a Fresh Face Was Non-Negotiable

Casting director Mukesh Chhabra recently opened up in an exclusive interview, shedding light on the filmmakers' unwavering commitment to authenticity. The team was adamant about finding a completely fresh face, someone without an established background in the industry, to enhance the realism of the character's world.

Chhabra explained, "We had extensive discussions initially. For the place this girl belongs to in the story, taking a fresh approach was crucial. At first, we considered many big, established actors, and Aditya Dhar received numerous messages from people asking, 'Why not me?' because it's Ranveer Singh's film. But we were very clear: we needed a girl who felt entirely new, with no prior baggage, so it would seem like Ranveer's character is genuinely entering her space."

The Rigorous Audition Process: From 1000 to One

The casting team embarked on a meticulous shortlisting journey, auditioning more than a thousand girls for the pivotal role. Chhabra detailed the step-by-step narrowing down process, which was both intense and methodical.

"We auditioned so many people—over a thousand girls. My brief was crystal clear: completely fresh, a new approach, and mastery of the language to make it feel authentic. The audition script was the scene from part 2 where she says, 'Are you a Hindustani agent?' We did that scene with at least 50 people after initial shortlisting, then reduced it to 30, 20, 10, 5, 3, and finally one," Chhabra recounted.

Aditya Dhar's Instant Reaction to Sara Arjun's Audition

The moment Sara Arjun performed her audition, the decision became almost instantaneous. Chhabra shared the pivotal moment when he sent her audition to director Aditya Dhar via WhatsApp.

"When she did that scene, I immediately sent it to Aditya. He asked, 'Who is this?' I told him she's a new girl with some experience as a child actor in ads and films. Initially, we had concerns about her height, but we realized it would fit the story perfectly—him trying to woo her in that world. She gave a kick-ass audition, and I plan to release that footage soon so everyone can see why we chose her," Chhabra revealed.

On-Screen Chemistry and Box Office Dominance

Sara Arjun's pairing with Ranveer Singh has emerged as one of the film's standout elements, with their chemistry winning hearts across audiences. While the first part focused on character development, the sequel showcases a more mature and compelling portrayal by Arjun.

Meanwhile, 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' continues to shatter box office records. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 41.55 crore on its second Friday across 18,456 shows. The India net collection has soared to Rs 715.72 crore, with the worldwide gross approximately Rs 1,128.99 crore, cementing its status as a monumental success.

The film has also received praise from industry peers like Vicky Kaushal, Kangana Ranaut, and Vivek Agnihotri at the International Film Festival Delhi 2026, further solidifying its impact in the cinematic landscape.
