Veteran actor Shekhar Suman recently delighted fans by posting a nostalgic photograph from the archives of Bollywood history. The image features three iconic stars—Shekhar himself, the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, and the formidable Sanjay Dutt—standing together in a casual, smiling pose.
A Blast from the Bollywood Past
On Monday, Shekhar Suman took to his social media to share this rare glimpse into the past. In the picture, the trio is dressed in relaxed attire, with Suman and Dutt flanking Amitabh Bachchan. The caption simply read, "A rare photo of Sanjay Dutt, Amit ji and me. #throwback." Based on the context, the photograph is believed to be from the sets of the 1994 action film 'Insaaf Apne Lahoo Se', for which Amitabh Bachchan had given the mahurat clap.
This film, directed by Latif Khan, boasted a star-studded cast including Shatrughan Sinha, Farah Naaz, Sonam, and Gulshan Grover. The plot revolved around Mahendra Pratap, who marries Geeta but forces her first son, Devilal, out of their home. The story takes a dramatic turn when Geeta is falsely implicated in a murder by her husband, leading to her arrest and the birth of another son while she is in prison.
Shekhar Suman's Cinematic Journey and Collaborations
Shekhar Suman, who made his acting debut in 1984 with the film 'Utsav' opposite Rekha, has shared screen space with numerous luminaries over the decades. He worked with Dimple Kapadia in 'Pati Parmeshwar' (1990) and with a young Madhuri Dixit in 'Manav Hatya' (1986). His professional path crossed again with Sanjay Dutt in the 2017 film 'Bhoomi', a revenge drama directed by Omung Kumar.
'Bhoomi' also featured Aditi Rao Hydari and Sharad Kelkar, and told the hard-hitting story of a woman who, after a brutal assault, joins forces with her father to seek justice outside the conventional legal system.
From Vintage Films to Modern OTT Success
Shekhar Suman was most recently seen in a prominent role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-talked-about debut web series, 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar'. This lavish period drama, set in the red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore during the Indian independence struggle, explores the intricate lives of tawaifs (courtesans) and their entanglement with political and personal conflicts under British rule.
The series features an ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, and Taha Shah Badussha. Suman's journey from the sets of 1990s Bollywood to a grand digital streaming platform highlights the evolving landscape of Indian entertainment, where veteran actors continue to find compelling new avenues for their craft.
