Sivakarthikeyan's 'Parasakthi' Faces 24 Cuts, Release Delayed
Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi gets 24 cuts from CBFC

The much-anticipated Tamil film 'Parasakthi', starring Sivakarthikeyan, has hit a major roadblock with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), leading to a postponed release. The film, which was scheduled to premiere in theaters on January 10, 2026, has not yet received its censor certificate. The board has instructed the filmmakers to implement a significant 24 cuts following a review on January 7, 2026.

Censor Board's Stringent Demands and Director's Appeal

According to reports, the CBFC's regional office in Chennai initially asked the 'Parasakthi' team to make 23 cuts. The board is expected to issue the certificate on January 8. A primary point of contention involves sequences depicting the anti-Hindi agitation in Tamil Nadu. The Censor Committee directed the makers to remove some of these scenes.

Unhappy with the suggested edits, director Sudha Kongara approached the Revising Committee of the CBFC in Mumbai. It is reported that Kongara believes the mandated cuts would severely impact the film's storyline and completely change its intended context. As of now, neither the director nor the film's producers have issued an official statement regarding this development.

High-Profile Cast and Historic Setting

'Parasakthi' is a major cinematic venture with a reported budget of Rs 150 crore. It marks the 25th film in Sivakarthikeyan's career, adding to the immense buzz surrounding it. The film also features Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela, with the latter making her Tamil debut. Set in 1960s Madras, the narrative explores the socio-political climate of Tamil Nadu during the anti-Hindi protests. Sivakarthikeyan portrays a college student who becomes involved in the agitation. The music is composed by GV Prakash Kumar.

Release Clash Averted and Future Uncertainty

The certification delay has directly impacted the release strategy. 'Parasakthi' was initially set to clash at the box office with Thalapathy Vijay's final film, 'Jana Nayagan'. However, the ongoing issues with the censor board have forced the makers to postpone the release indefinitely. No new date has been announced yet, leaving fans and the industry awaiting further updates on when this historic drama will finally reach the screens.
