Kannada cinema's celebrated star Kichcha Sudeep is generating significant buzz for his forthcoming action-thriller, 'Mark'. As the film gears up for its big-screen debut, the actor has opened up about his cautious stance on sequels and franchise films, preferring to explore new narratives over revisiting past characters.
Sudeep's Cautious Stance on Sequels and Franchises
During a recent promotional interaction for 'Mark' with Gulte Plus, Sudeep was questioned about potentially embarking on a franchise journey. This came up as the film's director, Vijay Kartikeyaa, has expressed interest in a possible 'Max 2'. The actor, known for his role in 'Dabangg 3', presented a thoughtful perspective. He emphasized the importance of fully experiencing one chapter before contemplating another.
Sudeep stated that the decision for a sequel ultimately rests with the film's entire team. While acknowledging that some follow-ups have succeeded, he feels not every story needs an extension. "Sometimes a writer can pull off a second part, but a third often leads to trouble. For me, even doing a second installment is already a challenge," he explained.
He revealed a personal reluctance to step back into a character's shoes once that journey feels complete. "I’m not sure I’m ready to put on the same makeup and relive that character. You’ve completed that journey; there are so many other exciting characters to explore. It’s better to move on," Sudeep added, highlighting his desire for creative evolution.
Why 'Vikrant Rona' Doesn't Need a Sequel, But a Pquel Might
The conversation naturally turned to his previous hit, the adventure mystery 'Vikrant Rona', which garnered a massive fan following. Sudeep clarified that he does not see a natural progression for a sequel to that story. However, he intriguingly suggested that a prequel could hold potential.
"It’s not like KGF or Pushpa, where the character arc allows for expansion. If we do a prequel, there may be a story to tell," he said, drawing a distinction between films built for a franchise and those that are more self-contained.
All About the Upcoming Thriller 'Mark'
Shifting focus to his immediate project, 'Mark' promises to be a high-octane thriller. Sudeep plays the role of a suspended officer caught in a desperate race against time. His mission is to rescue kidnapped children while navigating a dangerous web of corrupt politicians and powerful adversaries.
The film boasts a strong supporting cast including Naveen Chandra, Yogi Babu, Shine Tom Chacko, Guru Somasundaram, Vikranth, Roshni Prakash, Dev Gill, Arul Dass, Archana Kottige, and Deepshikha. The musical score is composed by the talented B. Ajaneesh Loknath.
Mark your calendars, as 'Mark' is set to hit theatres nationwide on December 25. With Sudeep's star power and an engaging premise, the film is poised to be a major holiday season attraction for audiences.
