Taylor Selfridge Opens Up About Daughter Maya's Medical Crisis

Former Teen Mom star Taylor Selfridge has provided a heartfelt and detailed account of the terrifying two weeks she spent in the hospital with her three-year-old daughter, Maya. In a recent Instagram post, Taylor described the experience as a "nightmare", but she expressed immense pride in Maya's resilience, calling her "the strongest little human ever" for fighting through numerous setbacks.

The Medical Emergency Unfolds

In an Instagram update shared on April 11, Taylor revealed that what initially seemed like a minor stomach bug quickly escalated into a severe medical situation, requiring immediate action. Maya's condition deteriorated so rapidly that she had to be airlifted from Amarillo to Fort Worth for urgent care. The ordeal involved 18 days in the hospital, filled with endless tests and treatments, before they were finally able to return home to California.

Taylor posted photos capturing moments of normalcy amidst the crisis, showing Maya playing games, sipping a milkshake, and even celebrating Easter inside her hospital room at Cook Children's Medical Center. In her own words, Taylor wrote, "18 days in the hospital and we’re finally home. What started off as thinking it was a stomach bug turned into something so much bigger. My baby is a fighter, the strongest little human ever. She’s still healing, but we are finally back in California. It’s a lot to unpack and I will but for now just grateful I was able to bring my baby home. Thank you, Cook Children’s CICU in Fort Worth, TX for saving my babies life. And thank you god."

Maya's Ongoing Health Battles

This hospital stay is not the first serious health challenge Maya has faced. Born in June 2022 with tricuspid atresia, a rare and serious heart defect, Maya has required constant medical attention since birth. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this condition occurs when the tricuspid valve in the heart fails to form, necessitating surgeries and other procedures. In October 2025, Maya underwent a 13-day hospitalization for an open-heart procedure called the Fontan, which aimed to improve oxygen flow to her lungs.

Taylor first alerted fans to Maya's latest hospitalization after they noticed her absence from Snapchat. In an initial announcement, she shared, "16 days in the hospital...this is the longest stay/most stressful one we've ever had, and that's saying a lot," adding that Maya was improving and hoping to be discharged soon. On April 10, Maya was officially on her way home after being "life-flighted" to the hospital, with Taylor posting photos of her leaving, including a stop at the Rainforest Cafe.
