Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday said that politically-patronised private investment is crowding out broad-based private investment in India, describing the lack of buoyancy in private corporate investment as the country's most serious economic challenge.
Ramesh's Statement on Investment Trends
Speaking to reporters, Ramesh argued that the current investment landscape is skewed in favor of a few politically connected businesses, which is stifling broader private sector participation. 'The lack of buoyancy in private corporate investment is India's most serious challenge,' Ramesh said, according to a PTI report.
Impact on Economic Growth
He further warned that this trend could have long-term implications for job creation and economic growth, as small and medium enterprises struggle to compete with larger, well-connected firms. Ramesh called for policy measures to level the playing field and encourage more inclusive investment.
