Yami Gautam Reveals Love Story: How Aditya Dhar's Chair Gesture Won Her Heart
Yami Gautam on falling for Aditya Dhar & Dhurandhar's Rs 900cr success

Bollywood actress Yami Gautam has shared intimate details of her love story with filmmaker husband Aditya Dhar, revealing the simple, kind gestures that cemented her feelings for him. This personal revelation comes alongside the monumental professional success of Dhar's latest directorial venture, Dhurandhar, which has stormed past the Rs 900 crore mark at the global box office in a mere 19 days since its release.

From Professional Respect to Personal Partnership

Yami Gautam met Aditya Dhar on the sets of the 2019 blockbuster Uri: The Surgical Strike, a film that catapulted Dhar to fame after years of struggle. However, the actress clarified that their romantic connection sparked later, during the film's promotional tour. "We 'talked-talked' during promotions," Yami explained in a conversation with Humans of Bombay. She highlighted their shared professional wavelength and similar outlook on life as foundational elements of their bond.

She expressed immense respect for Dhar's directorial prowess and temperament. "Shooting is extremely stressful, but I have never seen him lose his cool," Yami stated, praising his solution-oriented and patient nature both on set and in personal life. Their relationship evolved organically from friendship, without a dramatic proposal. "We just knew we wanted to get married," she said, adding that their families were fully supportive.

The Simple Gesture That Said It All

Yami Gautam recalled a specific incident that perfectly encapsulated Aditya Dhar's character, long before they were a couple. She noted that her initial instinct about him being "a very nice man" was confirmed by everyone around her, including her makeup and hair team.

She shared a telling anecdote: Aditya once saw her makeup artist sitting on the floor to eat her lunch during a busy workday. Without a second thought, he immediately offered his own chair to her. "No one even thinks of something like this," Yami emphasized, illustrating the innate kindness that deeply impressed her. This quality later earned Dhar the affectionate fan-given title "green forest" for his caring behaviour during her pregnancy.

An Intimate Wedding and A Blockbuster Legacy

The couple tied the knot in an intimate Hindu wedding ceremony in the mountains in 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, with only immediate family present. Yami insists they would have chosen the same simple, nature-centric wedding even without the pandemic, as it allowed them to focus on cherished rituals and traditions. She wore her mother's saree and did her own hair and makeup to emulate her mother's bridal look.

Today, they are parents to a son, celebrating four years of togetherness. Professionally, they are riding an unprecedented high with Dhurandhar, co-produced by Dhar's B62 Studios. The film's staggering financial success has placed Aditya Dhar in a new league altogether. Confident in the film's enduring impact, Yami Gautam declared, "It is not your parting-away gift of 2025; it is your welcome gift of 2026. I believe it won't just be the film of the year, but the film of many, many years to come."
