In a significant move to honor India's military heroes, the Delhi government has declared Farhan Akhtar's war drama 120 Bahadur tax-free in the national capital. The announcement came directly from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday, November 28, 2025.
Honoring India's Bravehearts
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made the formal declaration through a post on social media platform X, emphasizing that the film pays tribute to the extraordinary courage, leadership, and sacrifice of the 120 soldiers from Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment. These brave men fought valiantly in the historic Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 Sino-Indian War.
As a special mark of respect to the valiant soldiers, the Delhi Government has decided to grant tax-free status to the film in Delhi from 28th Nov, Gupta stated in her announcement. She particularly highlighted how the film showcases the inspiring leadership of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, whose actions and sacrifice remain a defining symbol of courage in India's military history.
Significant Savings for Moviegoers
The tax-free status brings substantial financial relief to audiences wanting to watch this war epic. Before the tax exemption, prime row tickets for 120 Bahadur were priced at ₹410. With the 18% GST now waived, Delhi moviegoers will enjoy significant savings.
The new ticket pricing structure after the tax-free status includes:
Classic Rows: ₹305.08
Prime Rows: ₹347.46
This represents a saving of ₹62.54 per ticket for prime rows, making the film more accessible to a wider audience. The price reduction aligns with Farhan Akhtar's earlier expressed wish for the film to be made tax-free to ensure the story reaches more people.
Box Office Performance and Film Details
At the Indian box office, 120 Bahadur has collected a total of ₹15 crore in its first 7 days. The film, directed by Razneesh Razy Ghai, features Farhan Akhtar in the lead role as Major Shaitan Singh and recounts the regiment's extraordinary valour during one of the most defining moments in India's military history.
The film portrays the incredible true story where 120 heroic Indian soldiers held their ground against 3,000 Chinese troops at Rezang La. The cast also includes Raashi Khanna as Shagun Kanwar, the wife of Major Shaitan Singh, adding emotional depth to the war narrative.
Farhan Akhtar had previously expressed his hope for tax-free status during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), telling PTI that making it tax-free will definitely benefit the story going out far and wide. With the Delhi government's decision, his wish has been fulfilled, potentially boosting the film's viewership and box office performance in the coming weeks.
