Dhurandhar 2 Copyright Battle: Mediation Fails Over 'Tirchi Topiwala' Song
Dhurandhar 2 Mediation Fails Over 'Tirchi Topiwala' Song

The copyright dispute between Trimurti Films and the production house behind Dhurandhar 2 has reached an impasse. The conflict revolves around the recreated song 'Tirchi Topiwala' (also known as 'Oye Oye') from the 1989 film Tridev. Mediation efforts between the two parties have collapsed, and the matter is now scheduled for a fresh hearing at the Delhi High Court on May 8.

What Is the Dhurandhar 2 Copyright Dispute About?

At the heart of the legal battle is the song 'Rang De Lal' (Oye Oye) featured in Dhurandhar 2. This track is a recreated version of the iconic 'Tirchi Topiwala' from Tridev, a Sunny Deol-starrer composed by Anand-Milind with lyrics by Anand Bakshi.

Trimurti Films, which claims ownership of the song's rights, alleges that filmmaker Aditya Dhar's production company B62 Studios used the track—or a substantially similar version—without obtaining the necessary permissions. The Delhi High Court had previously referred the dispute to mediation, but according to a report by Bar and Bench, that attempt has now failed. With no resolution achieved through mediation, the copyright matter will proceed to a court hearing on May 8.

Trimurti Films Expresses Outrage

Trimurti Films did not hold back in expressing its displeasure over the alleged unauthorized use. In an interview with Mid-Day, a company representative stated, "They have mutilated 'Oye Oye', and the young producer [Dhar] feigns innocence. They have crossed the line. Where is their conscience? My lawyer said [the case] becomes too ambiguous [due to the contract]. But where have I given permission to mutilate my song?"
