The courtroom drama Haq, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam, is demonstrating impressive momentum at the Indian box office after a strong second day. The film, which opened to positive reviews, has successfully crossed a significant financial milestone.
Solid Growth on Second Day
After collecting ₹1.75 crore on its opening day Friday, the film witnessed a remarkable surge on Saturday. The box office figures for Day 2 came in at an impressive ₹3.35 crore. This represents a massive 91.43% growth from its first day, indicating strong word-of-mouth and audience approval.
With this substantial jump, the film's total domestic earnings now stand at a commendable ₹5.10 crore, officially pushing it past the ₹5 crore mark within just two days of its release.
Occupancy Rates Show Positive Trend
The audience turnout told a story of growing interest throughout the day. The overall occupancy rate for Haq on its second day was 19.35%. A breakdown of the numbers reveals a clear pattern: while morning shows saw a modest 7.66% occupancy and afternoon shows registered 17.46%, the film gained significant traction as the day progressed.
The evening shows recorded a much healthier 23.71% occupancy, and the night shows performed the strongest at 28.57%. This increasing trend suggests that positive audience reactions from the first day likely contributed to the stronger evening and night performances on Saturday.
Inspired by a Landmark Case
Haq draws its narrative inspiration from the historic 1985 Shah Bano case. This landmark legal battle began with a 62-year-old Muslim woman, Shah Bano, petitioning the courts for maintenance from her husband after their divorce. Her plea ignited a nationwide debate on critical issues including secularism, minority rights, and the ongoing discussion around the need for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in India.
The film has been praised for its handling of this sensitive subject. An excerpt from a review by SCREEN publication noted, "Haq does what it sets out to do with clear-eyed empathy, giving us an ordinary woman who found extraordinary strength and resilience to fight for her cause, and created, without ever quite realising it, history."
Reacting to the positive reception, lead actress Yami Gautam expressed her gratitude on social media platform X. She wrote, "A well-intended film finds its audience eventually & vice-versa. Grateful."
Haq is directed by Suparn S Varma and is a joint production by Junglee Pictures, Insomnia Films, and Baweja Studios. The film also features performances by Vartika Singh, Sheeba Chaddha, and Danish Husain in pivotal roles.
