Supergirl Day 1 Box Office: Can DC Film Challenge Bollywood Releases?
Supergirl Day 1 Box Office: Can It Beat Bollywood?

Supergirl Opens to Mixed Response in India

The much-anticipated DC film Supergirl hit Indian screens on June 26, 2026, and earned approximately ₹4.5 crore on its opening day. While the film has generated buzz among superhero fans, it faces an uphill battle against strong Bollywood releases that have dominated the box office in recent weeks.

According to trade analysts, the opening day collection is lower than expected, given the popularity of the character and the marketing blitz. The film's performance in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru was decent, but it struggled in smaller towns.

Bollywood Competition Heats Up

Bollywood has seen a resurgence with back-to-back hits, and two major films are currently running in theatres: Blockbuster 2 starring a top Khans and Romantic Comedy 5 featuring a popular young star. Both films have been performing well, collectively earning over ₹100 crore in their first week.

Trade expert Komal Nahta commented, "Supergirl has a loyal fan base, but the Indian audience is currently inclined towards homegrown content. The film needs strong word-of-mouth to survive."

Comparing Opening Day Numbers

In comparison, recent Bollywood releases like Action Hero 3 opened at ₹12 crore, while Drama Queen 2 earned ₹8.5 crore on Day 1. Hollywood superhero films have historically performed well in India, but Supergirl's opening is below the ₹6-7 crore benchmark set by similar films.

However, the film has received positive reviews from critics, with many praising the lead actress's performance and the visual effects. The audience rating on BookMyShow stands at 4.2 out of 5, indicating potential for growth.

Weekend Prospects

Industry insiders believe that if the film maintains its momentum over the weekend, it could cross ₹20 crore in its first three days. But with no major holiday advantage and competition from Bollywood, achieving this target will be challenging.

"The film's fate will be decided by Saturday and Sunday collections. If families start coming in, it can surprise everyone," said film distributor Rajesh Thadani.

Global Performance

Globally, Supergirl has earned $45 million on its opening day, with strong numbers in the US and China. The film's worldwide total is expected to reach $150 million by Sunday.

In India, the film is released in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The dubbed versions accounted for 40% of the total collections, indicating interest in non-metro markets.
