Ludhiana witnessed the celebration of Bakr-Eid with profound religious fervor and gaiety. The day commenced for the Muslim community with the offering of Eid prayers in mosques across the city. The largest congregation took place at Jamia Masjid in Field Gunj, where community members, adorned in new attire, gathered for prayers. Similar prayers were held in various other locations, including Field Gunj, Gill Road, BRS Nagar, and Dugri.
Address by Shahi Imam
Shahi Imam of Punjab, Maulana Usman Ludhianvi, addressed the gathering and extended his congratulations to the people on the occasion of Bakr-Eid. He urged the community to engage in acts of charity during the festival and to extend a helping hand to the poor and needy. Following the prayers, community members—including children, adults, and the elderly—exchanged hugs and greetings.
Traditional Sacrifices and Festivities
After the traditional prayers, the community performed the ritual sacrifice of goats and sheep. Muhammad Khalid, a businessman from Division No. 3, shared insights into the celebrations: "Apart from offering prayers in mosques, preferably in new clothes, we also sacrifice goats and sheep. We prepare special dishes for the occasion, including sweet delicacies like sawaiyaan (vermicelli)." The festival also brought excitement among children, who dressed in new clothes bought specifically for Eid. Nadeem, a teenager from Brown Road, expressed his joy: "I bought a new kurta pyjama for Eid prayers and also wore jeans and a shirt purchased specially for the occasion. It was a great day, and the festivities will continue for the next two days, as this Eid is celebrated over three days."
