Jordon Hudson is once again at the center of attention surrounding North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick. This time, it happened after a reporter uncovered details about her unusual public-records requests involving the university and Belichick’s CBS interview controversy. The story became even stranger when Hudson reportedly sent the reporter a simple waving emoji after learning he was tracking her requests.
The update came from journalist David Covucci, editor-in-chief of FOIAball, during an appearance on Pablo Torre’s podcast alongside co-host Jessica Smetana. Covucci explained that he had filed his own Freedom of Information Act requests to see what Hudson was asking the University of North Carolina for. According to him, Hudson later realized he was following her requests and reached out online in a subtle way. Covucci said Hudson followed him on Instagram and sent him a waving emoji through X, formerly Twitter. He took it as her way of saying she knew he was investigating the situation. The exchange quickly added another layer to the growing spotlight around Belichick and Hudson’s relationship, which has already faced heavy public attention since Belichick’s CBS interview in 2025.
Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson’s CBS interview fallout continues to create attention at UNC
According to David Covucci, Hudson had been requesting emails connected to Bill Belichick’s interview with “CBS News Sunday Morning.” The interview originally aired in April 2025 while Belichick was promoting his book, The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football. However, the conversation became viral after Hudson interrupted questions about how she and the 74-year-old coach first met.
Covucci claimed Hudson searched for terms including “girlfriend,” “Belichick,” “Jordon,” and “Hudson” in university emails. He also said six athletic department officials, including Belichick himself, were informed about the requests.
Still, Covucci explained that the search did not uncover anything major. Speaking on the podcast, he said, “Jordan was requesting emails between the university and a producer at CBS and there’s nothing there. You know, most people are just doing their job.”
Earlier this week, Belichick accused CBS of editing the interview in a misleading way. Hudson later supported his comments on social media and wrote, “Release the unedited transcript. Release the unedited footage. Holding you to it.”
Belichick, who won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, is preparing for his second season at North Carolina after the Tar Heels finished 4-8 in 2025. UNC will open the 2026 season against TCU in Dublin, Ireland.
