In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the state capital, a five-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man in his seventies whom she affectionately called 'nanu' (grandfather). The police have arrested the accused, a former advocate and neighbour of the minor survivor.

The crime occurred on May 3 in an upscale locality of Bhopal. According to police, the accused lured the girl into his home while she was playing with his visiting grandchildren. Unaware of the danger, the child followed him to another room where he committed the heinous act.
After the assault, the girl returned home, not fully comprehending what had happened. Later that evening, she complained of pain in her private parts to her mother. Upon examination, the mother found scratch marks, indicating sexual abuse.
Legal Action
The mother took the child to a doctor, who suspected rape. Subsequently, a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
