Dibrugarh Sikhs Observe Shaheedi Diwas with Religious Fervour

Dibrugarh: The Sikh community in Dibrugarh observed Shaheedi Diwas, commemorating the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, with religious fervour and quiet dignity at the historic Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara on AT Road on Thursday.

Shaheedi Diwas marks a poignant chapter in Sikh history. Guru Arjan Dev Ji was executed in 1606 on the orders of Mughal Emperor Jahangir for refusing to renounce his faith. His steadfastness in the face of persecution remains a lasting symbol of religious freedom and selfless sacrifice.

From early morning, devotees attended the Akhand Path, followed by ardas, kirtan and prayers. Guru Ka Langar was also organised, with members of the community participating in seva.

Outside the gurdwara, volunteers prepared and distributed chabeel—a cooling drink made with milk, sugar and rose water—to pedestrians and commuters along AT Road.

Sardar Gurdev Singh, president of the Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara committee, said, “Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom is an eternal lesson in patience, devotion and the courage to stand firm in one’s faith. When we distribute chabeel, we are not merely offering a drink, but carrying forward his message of selfless service to humanity.”

Harpreet Kaur, a volunteer, said the observance was deeply personal. “On this sacred day, every drop of chabeel we serve is an act of remembrance and gratitude. Guru Ji gave everything for his faith, and the least we can do is give a few hours in his honour,” she said.
