Chennai: An elderly couple was drugged and robbed of gold jewellery weighing 51 sovereigns at their home in Kolapakkam near Kilambakkam. Police suspect the role of their live-in domestic worker from Nepal, who was hired just a week ago.
Incident Details
According to the complaint lodged by the victims, the worker served milk to Rajendran, 61, and his wife Usha Rani, 57, before they went to bed on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, the couple discovered that the gold jewellery worn by Usha was missing. Additionally, the worker had absconded, and the house was locked from the outside.
Police broke open the lock and conducted a preliminary investigation. They suspect that the worker might have mixed a sedative in the milk, rendering the couple unconscious.
Investigation Underway
A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace the suspect. However, police noted certain suspicious aspects. Usha Rani is said to have worn 51 sovereigns of gold jewellery while asleep, which is unusual. Moreover, no valuables belonging to Rajendran were reported missing.
Police are examining all angles and have formed special teams to apprehend the absconding worker. Further investigations are ongoing.
