In 2021, Gabrielle Union wrote an essay about her life for TIME, promoting her new memoir. In it, the popular actress opened up about how she gathered the courage to stay with Dwyane Wade when he fathered a child with another woman during their brief split.
The popular actress wrote, “But I loved him. Each day, he had worked to be forgiven, and I had chosen to do so.” She added, “And part of this journey of making peace with our love is also making peace with ourselves.”
The “Bring It On” actress continued, “I had come to accept that without that awful collision in our lives—this Big Bang moment in our relationship that set our galaxy as we knew it—we wouldn’t have become the individuals we wanted to be.”

For those unaware, Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union were dating for a few years when they broke up for a couple of weeks in 2013. During that time, the Miami Heat legend ended up fathering a son with a longtime friend of his. While Dwyane Wade believed his romance with Gabrielle Union was over, the popular actress was actually trying to get back with him. This led to Dwyane Wade confessing to Gabrielle Union, and surprisingly, she was quite understanding about the situation then.
In December 2013, Dwyane Wade’s son was born. He proposed to Gabrielle Union a few months later, and they tied the knot.
