Gautam Rode, known for his long-standing association with television, is currently focused on bringing variety to his career rather than seeking constant visibility. As he prepares for his role in Undekhi 4, the actor is consciously selecting layered characters across different platforms, a shift that OTT formats have made possible while allowing him to maintain a healthier work-life balance.
Choosing Diverse Roles
Speaking about his recent choices, Rode explains, “The last project I worked on was Maamla Legal Hai Season 2, where I played a gay character. Then there’s Undekhi, which is completely different. I can’t reveal much about it now, but it’s something I’ve never done before. It’s complex, and that excites me. When the character was narrated, it immediately clicked because it was unlike anything I’ve attempted. Another show I’m doing is called The Storm, where the arc is entirely different again.”
Physical Transformations
He adds, “In terms of appearance, each role is distinct. One character has a beard, another has stubble and long hair, while a third is clean-shaven with short hair. The mannerisms, characterization—everything changes. Even the platforms differ. I’m truly enjoying playing these varied roles at this stage in my career.”
The OTT Advantage
Rode highlights how OTT provides creative freedom and personal benefits. “With OTT, you stay connected to a show for about eight months, but you only shoot for 20–25 days. There’s preparation, workshops, and costume trials, but actual shoot days are limited. So I get to spend quality time with my kids. I’m not waking up early, returning late, and repeating that cycle daily. That balance is something I’m really enjoying. No complaints.”
