Filmmaker Karan Johar has finally broken his silence on the recent Instagram unfollow spree that sparked widespread speculation online. The director-producer clarified that the move was purely a digital detox and not indicative of any fallout with his industry peers.
Taking to Instagram, Johar addressed the rumors directly, writing, “It’s a DIGITAL DETOX!!!! Am unfollowing everyone to reduce my time and energy spent on the gram!!! This can’t be national news for god’s sake...please clickbait something else! This is irrelevant!” His statement aimed to put an end to the swirling gossip that had many believing there was a rift between him and several Bollywood celebrities.

Earlier, eagle-eyed netizens noticed that several prominent names were missing from Johar’s following list. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, the filmmaker reportedly unfollowed Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Kartik Aaryan, Ananya Panday, and Manish Malhotra, among others. Interestingly, Priyanka Chopra remained on his follow list, which further fueled online discussions. At one point, Johar’s account showed he was following only 78 accounts, despite having over 17 million followers.

On the work front, Johar recently backed the film Chand Mera Dil, starring Lakshya and Ananya Panday. The movie received mixed reviews and had a modest box office run. Next, he is producing Naagzilla, featuring Kartik Aaryan in the lead role.
