Thiruvananthapuram: May 10 marks the 25th death anniversary of filmmaker M Krishnan Nair, one of the most popular directors of Malayalam cinema in the 1960s and 1970s. The commemoration also coincides with the ongoing year-long ‘Vayalar Year' celebrations, which began on October 27, 2025, marking the 50th death anniversary of poet and lyricist Vayalar Ramavarma—Krishnan Nair's close friend and collaborator on several iconic films.

Event Details

To mark the occasion, Bharat Bhavan will host a special programme titled Krishnanjali on Sunday at 5pm, blending cinema, music and memories associated with the two legends. The event will feature a screening of a documentary on Krishnan Nair produced by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, followed by a memorial meeting, a book release and a musical presentation of songs penned by Vayalar for Krishnan Nair's films. Earlier in the day, at 10am, the Malayalam film Kavyamela will be screened. The programme is jointly organised by Bharat Bhavan and the Vayalar Ramavarma Cultural Forum.

Legacy of Krishnan Nair

M Krishnan Nair was a prolific filmmaker who directed over 50 films in Malayalam, many of which were box office hits. His collaboration with Vayalar Ramavarma produced timeless classics such as Kavyamela, Chettathi, and Anubhavangal Paalichakal. The duo's work is remembered for its poetic lyrics and engaging storytelling.
