The main accused in the murder case of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, also known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, along with his alleged accomplice, were taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bathinda for a medical check-up on Saturday. Both individuals are currently lodged in Bathinda Central Jail.
Medical Details of the Accused
Bathinda Rural DSP HS Sra confirmed that Amritpal Singh Mehron was examined for eye and dental problems, while Jaspreet Singh underwent a scan for a stone in his abdomen. Following the check-up, doctors prescribed medication, and both were returned to the jail.
Background of the Case
Kanchan Kumari, a 36-year-old resident of Ludhiana, was found dead on June 11 last year. Her badly decomposed body was discovered in the rear seat of a car parked outside Adesh University in Bhucho Kalan village along the Bathinda-Chandigarh highway. The discovery was made after locals reported a foul smell.
The police have attributed the murder to "moral policing." According to investigators, Amritpal, who knew the victim, had previously warned her against posting what he considered "indecent" videos on social media. He is alleged to have conspired with his associates to strangle her to death.
Accused in Custody
Currently, four accused are in judicial custody: Amritpal, Jaspreet, Nimratjit Singh, and Ranjit Singh. The latter two are residents of Tarn Taran district and are identified as Nihangs. Amritpal was extradited from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and brought back to India on April 10 this year.
A fifth accused, Shamsher Singh alias Shera of Jhabal village in Tarn Taran district, remains at large and is evading arrest.
The case continues to be investigated by the Bathinda police, who are working to apprehend the remaining suspect and gather further evidence.
