Nick Cannon Allows Son to Date at 15, Not Twin Daughter: Double Standard
Nick Cannon Allows Son to Date at 15, Not Twin Daughter

Nick Cannon has admitted to enforcing a double standard when it comes to dating rules for his 15-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, whom he shares with Mariah Carey. The comedian and father of 12 revealed that while he encourages his son to date, he is far more protective of his daughter due to perceived risks young women face.

Nick Cannon Explains Dating Rule for Son Moroccan

During Saturday's episode of the TMZ Podcast, Cannon stated, "My son been dating and I've allowed it. I've encouraged it." The comment came after interviewer Towanda Robinson asked whether he was also allowing and encouraging Monroe to date. Cannon quickly clarified his stance: "No, absolutely not. It's absolutely a double standard." He added, "You have to because first of all, and I know I get in trouble a lot because I say things with my chest, but, there is a difference when parenting a son and when parenting a daughter."

The 'Wild 'N Out' star explained that his concern stems from a protective instinct. "I am more protective of my daughter because there's things out there that I have to protect my daughter from," he said. Cannon views his son's dating life differently: "Like, as we know, there's certain types of individuals that you want to keep your daughter away from. My son, it's a different conversation when he's going out into the dating world."

Nick Cannon Says Daughter Monroe Must Explain Dates

Cannon also expressed fears about domestic violence. "But if somebody puts their hands on my daughter, I'm going to jail," he said, calling that situation his "worst nightmare" and adding, "I'm going to jail for forever." He noted that he does not worry about the same issues with Moroccan, nor is he concerned about gold diggers because "he's got a lot of money. His mama's Mariah Carey."

However, Cannon said Monroe will not be blocked forever. "We made a deal. If she can explain to me what's going to happen on these dates, then she can go," he revealed. He wants open conversations before college: "I'm preparing her for college. I know that's out of my control. I can't do nothing about it. Hopefully we're still having all these open conversations. My daughter tells me any and everything." Cannon emphasized that he wants Monroe to ask questions and make safe choices when she starts dating.
