Marcia Lucas, the acclaimed film editor whose work on blockbusters such as 'Star Wars', 'American Graffiti', and 'Return of the Jedi' earned her an Academy Award and a lasting legacy in Hollywood, has died. She was 80 years old.

The news of her death was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, which released an official statement from her family. The statement read: 'Marcia will be remembered as a brilliant storyteller, a trailblazer for women in film, a loving mother and grandmother, a generous host, and a loyal friend whose humor and sparkle filled every room she entered. Her influence on film is indelible, but those who knew her best will remember the way she made life feel more vivid, more beautiful, more fun, and more full of love.'
It was revealed that she passed away peacefully at her home in Rancho Mirage, California, on May 27. The report also confirmed that the Oscar-winning editor died due to cancer.
Career and Legacy
Born in California, Lucas began her career as an editor in the 1960s. After securing an apprenticeship with a prestigious organization, she was tasked with editing multiple promotional trailers and commercials of the time. She worked directly under film editor Verna Fields, who had worked on films like 'Jaws' and Steven Spielberg's first major film, 'The Sugarland Express'.
While working on the documentary 'Journey to the Pacific', she met her future husband, George Lucas. The two went on to collaborate on numerous projects throughout their careers. The BAFTA-winning editor worked on many films and other projects over the course of her career, and she also unofficially assisted her husband with many of his projects. She is survived by her two daughters, Amanda Lucas and Amy Soper.
