The highly anticipated spy action drama film 'Patriot', starring Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty, has opened to a positive to mixed response at the box office. While fans have largely enjoyed the film, a segment of viewers expressed disappointment with the three-hour runtime and certain character arcs.
Director Mahesh Narayanan Responds to Criticism
In a conversation with Media One following the release, director Mahesh Narayanan addressed the mixed reactions, particularly regarding Mohanlal's character development. He explained that the character was intentionally designed from the outset to convey a different kind of story and emotion. Narayanan stated, 'I understand the reaction, but this is how the character was meant to be. I wanted to explore a unique narrative through this role.'
Mohanlal's Reaction to His Character
Narayanan also shared Mohanlal's perspective on the film. 'I had spoken to Lal sir about it. He watched the film in the US and really liked it. Even while dubbing, he had seen portions of his scenes and was happy with how it all shaped up,' the director revealed. He added, 'In fact, when I first approached him with the project, that particular aspect was one of the things he liked about the character. So I don't think he sees it that way at all.'
Mammootty on Mixed Opinions
A few days ago, Mammootty also addressed the mixed response at an event in Dubai. According to a report by Mid-day, he said, 'We are living in an era where privacy is increasingly lost, and the film Patriot addresses this relevant subject.' He further commented on differing opinions: 'There will be different views—good, bad, partly good, mostly good. Everyone is free to express their opinion as they feel. Some of you may have heard such opinions before coming here. Whatever it is, you will form your own view, and that is what matters. Films are made with the intention of being enjoyed by all.'
