In a decisive crackdown on drug trafficking, the Ludhiana police demolished the house of a notorious drug smuggler in Sukhdev Nagar, Lohara, on Wednesday. The property belonged to Rana Kumar, a resident of Ludhiana who has been involved in the illicit drug trade for over a decade.
Details of the Demolition
The demolition was carried out by a police team under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Crime) Harpal Singh. According to DCP Singh, Rana Kumar is named in at least six cases of drug smuggling and has been convicted by a court in three of those cases. The accused has been absconding since 2025 and could not be traced despite efforts.
“So far, only one property of the accused was traced, which was constructed in violation of rules and on encroached land,” DCP Singh said. “The police have found out the accused might have more properties. A police team is on the job to trace such assets acquired from the proceeds of drug trade.”
Legal and Illegal Activities
The house was reportedly built illegally on encroached land, and its demolition was part of the police's ongoing efforts to dismantle the financial infrastructure of drug networks. The action sends a strong message to those involved in drug trafficking that their ill-gotten assets will not be spared.
Rana Kumar's criminal record spans over a decade, with multiple cases registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. His conviction in three cases underscores the severity of his offenses.
Police Investigation and Future Steps
The police are now investigating whether Kumar owns other properties acquired through drug proceeds. A dedicated team is working to trace and seize any such assets. The demolition was conducted after obtaining necessary approvals, and the operation was executed smoothly without any untoward incidents.
DCP Singh emphasized that the police are committed to curbing drug abuse and will continue to take strict action against smugglers. “We will not allow criminals to enjoy the fruits of their illegal activities. The law will take its course,” he added.
