Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are preparing to visit the United Kingdom for the first time in four years with their two children, Prince Archie (7) and Princess Lilibet (5), in July 2025. The trip follows an offer of royal accommodation extended by King Charles, signaling a potential thaw in family relations after the couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
King Charles offers accommodation, security concerns remain
According to PEOPLE, King Charles, 77, offered his younger son and his family a place to stay on a royal estate. However, no response to the offer has been reported. Previously, the monarch had offered Harry accommodation at Buckingham Palace, which he declined. The gesture is seen as a goodwill move despite ongoing tensions within the royal family.
Even if Harry and his family accept the offer, the Home Office will not provide additional security provisions. Since stepping back from royal roles, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex lost their tax-funded police protection—a matter Harry has fought in court to reinstate, citing safety concerns in his home country.
Invictus Games countdown prompts visit
The visit coincides with the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, an adaptive sporting competition for service personnel and veterans. Harry and Meghan previously attended countdown events for the Games. The Duke of Sussex founded the Invictus Games in 2014, and the event remains a key part of his public engagements.
Prince Harry expresses safety fears for family
Prince Harry has repeatedly stressed that he does not feel safe bringing his family to the UK. In a statement to the High Court in London, he said: "The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States. That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on UK soil."
He added: "I can't put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I'm reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm's way too." The security issue has been a major point of contention in the rift between Harry and the rest of the royal family.
Harry seeks reconciliation with father
Prince Harry has expressed a desire for reconciliation with his family. In a BBC interview last year, he said: "I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has," referring to King Charles's cancer diagnosis announced in 2024. "He won't speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile."
The last time father and son met was on September 10, 2025, at the King's London home, when Harry was in the UK for the Wellchild Awards and Invictus Games events. They had a private, 55-minute conversation, their first in-person meeting in 19 months. Harry has returned to the UK several times since stepping back, but Meghan and the children have not been there since 2022.
No plans for a reunion between Prince Harry and King Charles during the potential July visit have been confirmed, but the pair has met before during such trips.
