Music composer Pritam's birthday message on June 14 sparked speculation among fans that he might be stepping away from the music industry. The buzz grew stronger as many drew parallels between his post and singer Arijit Singh's retirement announcement earlier this year. However, sources close to the composer have clarified that Pritam has no plans to quit music.
Pritam's Birthday Note
In his birthday note, Pritam thanked fans for their wishes and reflected on wanting to make space for new experiences in life. “Thank you for all the wishes. Can’t answer everyone individually, but please accept my sincere gratitude. Today, I have decided to gift myself a few years to live life differently. To catch up on what I’ve missed.” He further hinted at pursuing long-delayed aspirations and interests beyond his mainstream work.
His post read further, “Time to set off on new journeys, which have been kept on the back burner for long. Mainstream is a great ride. But I’ve always been more curious about the roads unexplored. Thank you for all the love & support. Always.”
Rumors and Clarification
The message led many followers to believe that the celebrated composer was preparing to bid farewell to the industry. However, a source close to Pritam dismissed the speculation, stating that the composer is simply looking to devote more time to other passions while continuing his musical career.
“Pritam is not leaving the music industry. He ofcourse will continue to work. Through his post, he only highlighted that he has some more fields of interest that he wants to prioritise right now. It doesn’t mean that he will exit the music industry forever,” the source told Hindustan Times. According to the source, Pritam plans to focus on a few personal interests and projects as he begins a new chapter in his life, but music will remain an important part of his journey.
Comparison with Arijit Singh
The retirement rumours gained momentum because fans compared Pritam's post with Arijit Singh's announcement from January this year. At the time, the singer had revealed his decision to stop accepting new playback singing assignments.
“Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”
